The Snowdonian 2015

The Snowdonian train is already full in first and in the back Observation Car, and as it has only two ends, we cannot add another!  So booking now is in the comfortable cars in the rest of the train. THE PRICE FOR THE FULL DAY OUT IS £145, and there is still space available.

IF YOU WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE DIAMOND JUBILEE APPEAL PLEASE USE THE EXISTING FORMS. Use the menu bar above to access means of contributing and learning about the Appeal.  Please forgive any updating still taking place.

SNOWDONIAN TRAIN : The Next Snowdonian will leave in the morning of Saturday 18th April 2015.

Not only will the popular conducted tour of Boston Lodge take place on Friday afternoon, 17th April, for you to see all the working projects in action there, but on Saturday 18th April, we shall leave early for Blaenau, and then to Caernarfon and back to Porthmadog.  This is the longest heritage railway in Britain, and at over 76 miles, the longest 2ft gauge ride that can be had in Britain. The profits from this train go to the Diamond Jubilee Appeal, which has in 2014 raised over £500k for the Ffestiniog & welsh Highland Railways.  We need this money initially to build more carriages, with sheds to keep them in, and to renew the loco shed at Boston Lodge.  The DJA sets out a comprehensive 10 year programme of fundraising to create a Sustainable Railway.

The conducted visit to Boston Lodge on Friday afternoon 17th April will take place again, with a special train to get you there, and another to bring you back for a pre-booked meal in Spooners Restaurant.  This visit is extremely popular, and the guides are there to answer all your questions.  No charge for all of this – it’s part of the Snowdonian experience.  You do however need to book and pay for your evening meal in Spooners.

The Snowdonian train this year will head for Blaenau Ffestiniog first behind Taliesin and Lyd, before returning nonstop from Minffordd to Pont Croesor (change of motive power – remove Taliesin and Lyd, and add Linda, Blanche and Prince) and on to Beddgelert for lunch.  This time we will roll the train back out of Beddgelert and come in again, for those who want to wait and take pictures a while before joining the queue for the wonderful buffet at the Goat Hotel.  After lunch it is on to Caernarfon with the two Ladies on the front (assisted by the Old Gent) and and then enjoy a sprightly return to Porthmadog.

There has not been enough interest for the  special Sunday Photo Charter to run – sorry.  The organising team will talk to you on the train on Saturday about the prospects for a photocharter, or something else to amuse you on the Sunday in 2016.  Of course it may be that you just want to go home – but you can tell us?

First class and the Obs are now full sorry – first come was first served. Otherwise there’s lots of space left.
